
On Tuesday, one of the Downriver area’s best dual-sport student-athletes finalized her college decision.
Allen Park High School senior Mya Brandenburg formally penned her national letter of intent to continue her academic and athletic career at Lourdes University next school year.Brandenburg will join the women’s wrestling program at Lourdes.
One of the top female wrestlers both locally and statewide, Brandenburg this season for Allen Park has turned in a 18-2 record overall. That includes a current 16-match win streak, highlighted by a first-place finish at the Wayne County Championships back on Jan 11.
Brandenburg in her junior year earned all-News-Herald recognition after finishing the season with a sterling 26-2 mark, including wins in her first 22 matches. She finished fifth overall in the 235-pound division of the individual girls wrestling state championships.
Brandenburg has also been a fixture of the varsity softball program at Allen Park each of the last two seasons. During that time, she’s collected 65 hits — half of which have gone for extra bases — and drove in nearly 60 runs.
Brandenburg was named to the all-area first team for softball after being named an all-state honoree in Division 1.
