The 68th Grammy Awards could be a divine experience for some Detroit music-makers.
Though it’s a light year for Motor City nominees in general, CeCe Winans is, as usual, representing the metro area in the gospel and Christian field.
With 17 Grammys already on her mantle, Winans, who now calls Nashville home, is up for Best Gospel Performance/Song for “Come Jesus Come,” a collaboration with forebear Shirley Caesar. Winans will be up alongside Kirk Franklin, Tasha Cobbs Leonard and John Legend, Jonathan McReynolds and Jamal Roberts, and Pastor Mike Jr. in the category.
The Grammys take place Sunday, Feb. 1, at Crypto.com Arena, with the gospel awards likely presented during the Premiere Ceremony, which streams at 3:30 p.m. at live.grammy.com and the Recording Academy’s YouTube channel. The main ceremony will be broadcast at 8 p.m. via CBS (Channel 62 in Detroit).
Trevor Noah will host for a sixth consecutive time, which he says will be his final time, with performances scheduled from Sabrina Carpenter, Dr. Dre Global Impact Award recipient Pharrell Williams, Clipse and all eight nominees in the Best New Artist category.
Kendrick Lamar leads all nominees with nine, while Lady Gaga, Jack Antonoff and Cirkut have seven each and Carpenter, Bad Bunny, Leon Thomas III, Serban Ghenea and Tyler, the Creator have six.
