Opening Friday, Jan. 30, “Send Help” is the latest film from director Sam Raimi, the Royal Oak native who’s best known for his “Evil Dead” series and “Spider-Man” trilogy.

The movie stars Oscar nominee Rachel McAdams (“Spotlight”) and Dylan O’Brien (the “Maze Runner” trilogy). “Send Help” marks Raimi’s second collaboration with “The Notebook” actress McAdams. The two previously worked together in 2022’s “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.” Also, this is Raimi’s first R-rated film since 2000’s “The Gift.”

In “Send Help,” CEO Bradley Preston (O’Brien) – a young, cocky, sexist boss who inherited his company from his father – badly mistreats Linda Liddle (McAdams). The two head to Bangkok for a company merger, but their plane crashes on a deserted island. Now they must put aside their enmity and work together to survive in an unsettling, darkly humorous battle of wills and wits in this horror-thriller.

Movies playing in Southeast Michigan, new releases Jan. 30

“I loved the moral ambiguity around Linda and Bradley,” McAdams said. “It’s a true two-hander with lots of twists and turns. I love that about the script. I was very excited about the chills and thrills in it. And then when I heard Sam was directing it, it was like: ‘Oh, that’s just so perfect. This is right in his sweet spot.’”

Rated R for bloody violence and language. Running time is 113 minutes.
