Metro area theater companies are not wasting time getting 2026 in gear. Check out these productions hitting the boards this week …

• The music of Elvis Presley in the plays of William Shakespeare comes together in the just-opened “All Shook Up,” a stage comedy running through Feb. 1 at Meadow Brook Theatre. The show, written by Joe DiPietro, premiered on Broadway in 2005 and has since played around the world. Meadow Brook Theater is ‘All Shook Up’

• The Birmingham Village Players opens its production of “Once Upon a Mattress” — the long-running stage musical adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Princess and the Pea” — starting Friday, Jan. 9 and running through Jan. 25. Southfield’s Valencia Morgan stars as Princess Winifred, while Oak Park’s Jay Kaplan directs. • The Detroit Repertory Theatre opens the late August Wilson’s 1987 play “The Piano Lesson,” the Pulitzer Prize-winning fourth entry in his celebrated “Pittsburgh Cycle,” on Friday, Jan. 9, running through March 15. 31103 Woodrow Wilson St., Detroit. 313-868-1347 or detroitreptheatre.com.
