A ground stop for Detroit Metro Airport flights was lifted after a mechanical issue with a plane, airport authorities said Wednesday night.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the ground stop was ordered at the airport “due to aircraft emergency.”
The stop was issued at 6:29 p.m. Wednesday.
The Wayne County Airport Authority said the authority’s fire department responded Wednesday evening after a potential mechanical issue was reported on an aircraft. As a precaution, crews applied water to one of the aircraft’s engines.
There were no injuries, and passengers were not in danger, said the emailed statement from the WCAA. The aircraft will undergo maintenance.
Amanda Bregger said her husband was on a flight into Metro Airport during the grounding. He told her passengers were informed there “was a fire and the clean up is turning out to be far more substantial than they expected.”
His plane he was on was diverted to Columbus, Ohio, she said.
