The Trenton High School DECA chapter earned 34 medals across multiple events at the Michigan District competition, held Jan. 9 at Eastern Michigan University.
Trenton students demonstrated their business and marketing expertise across a variety of competitive events, showcasing decision-making, leadership, communication and problem solving skills through role plays that simulated real-world business scenarios.
Fifteen students qualified for the Michigan DECA State Career Development Conference, scheduled for March 5-7 in Detroit, where they will compete against top DECA members from across the state.
“I am incredibly proud of our students and the professionalism, confidence and teamwork they demonstrated,” said Melanie Elliott, DECA advisor. “As a chapter in only its second year, their level of success reflects the dedication, preparation and growth of our students both in and out of the classroom.”
DECA is a career and technical organization that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs with a career interest in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with over 294,000 members in more than 4,200 high school and college chapters in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico and Germany.
