Delta Air Lines said Friday it has expanded its Caribbean service from Detroit Metropolitan Airport, including more flights and a new destination.

Among the changes this winter: Delta will offer new Saturday-only flights to Liberia, Costa Rica and Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.

Delta has also expanded service to Nassau, the Bahamas, with daily flights this winter after offering Saturday-only service last year. Flights to Punta Cana, the Dominican Republic, will have increased seat capacity with service by a larger aircraft.

Flights to Cancún, Mexico, which the airline says is its most-traveled Caribbean destination from Detroit, operate three to four times daily.

The announcement comes a day after Spirit Airlines said it would add five seasonal destinations from Detroit starting in mid-April.
