The Woodhaven-Brownstown School District has taken the guesswork out of a commonly asked question likely asked on a daily basis by students and parents: “Where is the bus?”
Now, students and parents can pinpoint the answer to that question in real time with the help of an app.
School officials introduced this program as a new safety and security measure for students who ride district buses.
Through an investment in technology from Zonar Systems, parents now have access to the Zonar MyView app, which provides real-time updates on their child’s bus location.
School Superintendent Mark Greathead is excited about the app.
“We chose to implement Zonar because it gives parents and students peace of mind by improving safety, accountability, and communication within our transportation system,” Greathead said. “Families benefit from real-time information on buses, while students enjoy a more reliable and secure ride to and from school. The idea grew from our commitment to exploring new technologies that enhance student safety across the district.”
The app eliminates the stress of waiting for the bus by offering GPS-based tracking, estimated times of arrival, and instant notifications about route changes or delays.
Michael Belcher, WBSD director of contracted services and capital projects, is also impressed with the new program and all it has to offer families.
“This system provides transparency and communication which helps create peace of mind for parents,” Belcher said.
In addition to bus tracking, students will be assigned a Zonar Z Pass tag to scan when boarding and exiting the bus. This feature allows parents to receive instant alerts confirming when and where their child gets on and off, while also helping the district monitor ridership for improved safety and accountability.
Key features of the Zonar MyView app include:
• Real-time GPS tracking of your child’s bus
• Customizable alerts for arrivals, delays, and stop locations
• Peace of mind knowing when and where your child enters or exits the bus
• Increased safety through accurate rider information in case of emergencies
With Zonar technology, WBSD officials believe they are continuing to strengthen its commitment to student safety and clear communication with families.
Parents can download the free Zonar MyView app through their preferred app store to begin using the service.
