Grosse Ile High School unveiled and celebrated its new stadium Sept. 5.
The community was invited to the free events as a thank you for supporting the recent bond initiative, Superintendent Audrie Kalisz said in an email.
The celebration began with a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the board of education, district and school leaders and Kalisz. After the ribbon cutting, the night continued with food trucks and local venders under the new stadium lights.
During the event, the Grosse Ile High School senior class of 2026 meet at midfield with the district’s newest kindergarten class.
“The symbolic gathering at the 50-yard line represented the journey of learning from the very first steps of school to the threshold of graduation, connecting the district’s youngest learners with its soon-to-be graduates,” Kalisz wrote.
Before kickoff for Grosse Ile High School’s first football game of the season, the Grosse Ile Youth Recreation Association (GIYRA) sports program used the field for their football practice to break in the new turf.
At the end of the night, Grosse Ile High School did not win their first game of the season — an 18-7 loss to Huron — but they still celebrated the excitement of their new stadium. The Red Devils did manage to get that first win last Friday, a 30-0 romp over Milan in their new digs.

“Although the Red Devils fell short on the scoreboard, the atmosphere remained electric. The GIHS Marching Band played with pride, the cheerleaders energized the crowd, and fans filled the stands, showing unwavering support for their team and community,” Kalisz wrote. “The grand opening of the Grosse Ile High School Stadium was a celebration of community, education and tradition. From the ribbon-cutting to the final whistle, the night showcased the pride of Grosse Ile.”
