Michigan gas prices rose 15 cents from last week to an average of $2.96 per gallon for regular unleaded, AAA said Monday.

“Drivers across Michigan are seeing higher prices at the pump with some metro areas seeing gas prices above $3 a gallon,” Adrienne Woodland, a spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group, said in a statement.

The company attributed the falling prices to increasing demand, citing the latest data from the Energy Information Administration.

Gasoline demand increased from 8.17 million barrels per day to 8.30 million barrels per day, according to the agency. It also said total domestic gasoline stocks increased from 242 million barrels to 251 million. Production also rose last week, averaging 9.0 million barrels per day.

The state’s average price of regular unleaded gasoline is 18 cents higher than it was at the same time last month, but 19 cents lower than a year ago, AAA said.

The company also said Michigan motorists are paying about $44 for a full 15-gallon gasoline tank, which is about $6 less than 2025’s highest gas price in August.

In Metro Detroit, the average daily price per gallon is up to $2.92 per gallon, about 11 cents higher than last week’s average but 24 cents less than this same time in 2025, according to AAA.

The company said the state’s most expensive gas can be found in Ann Arbor at $3.03 per gallon, in Lansing at $3.02 per gallon, and in Saginaw at $3.01 per gallon. The cheapest is in Traverse City at $2.68 a gallon, Marquette at $2.74 a gallon, and in Metro Detroit at $2.92 a gallon.

Nationally, a gallon of regular unleaded gas costs an average of $2.82, according to AAA. The price is up 2 cents from a week ago and 30 cents less than last year.
