{"id":1404423,"date":"2026-02-05T08:22:34","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thenewsherald.com\/?p=1404423&#038;preview=true&#038;preview_id=1404423"},"modified":"2026-02-05T08:47:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T13:47:10","slug":"gambino-soldier-admits-table-flipping-rampage-midtown-restaurant-extortion-racket","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thenewsherald.com\/2026\/02\/05\/gambino-soldier-admits-table-flipping-rampage-midtown-restaurant-extortion-racket\/","title":{"rendered":"Gambino soldier admits to table-flipping rampage at NYC restaurant, extortion racket"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A hotheaded Gambino goon who flipped a table at a swanky Midtown restaurant and smashed a bottle into a federal witness\u2019 nose admitted Wednesday to the attack, and to <a href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.nyed.505455\/gov.uscourts.nyed.505455.13.0.pdf\">taking part in an extortion racket<\/a> targeting the city\u2019s garbage and demolition industries.<\/p>\n<p>James (Jimmy) LaForte, 49, is the 10th and final defendant to plead guilty in the scheme, which saw Gambino mobsters fantasizing about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nydailynews.com\/2023\/11\/08\/feds-take-down-gambino-mobsters-who-celebrated-nyc-extort-plot-with-champagne\/\">acting like samurai warriors and celebrating with champagne<\/a> as they used violence and arson to extort their victims.<\/p>\n<p>LaForte, a made man and Gambino soldier, is already serving more than 11 years in Pennsylvania for acting as his brother Joseph\u2019s enforcer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.phillymag.com\/news\/2024\/02\/24\/par-funding-financial-scandal\/\">in a $400 million fraud scheme,<\/a> and for beating up an attorney appointed by the courts to investigate the scam. His brother was sentenced to 15\u00bd years <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edpa\/pr\/par-funding-ceo-sentenced-15-12-years-prison-rico-conspiracy-securities-fraud-tax\">last March.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>LaForte now faces roughly eight to 10 more years behind bars, based on federal sentencing guidelines, after pleading guilty to racketeering conspiracy, extortion, witness retaliation and other crimes in Brooklyn Federal Court.
