SAN FRANCISCO (AP) \u2014 Brandi Carlile<\/a> isn\u2019t hedging.<\/p>\n

When the multi-Grammy winner steps onto the field at Super Bowl<\/a> to sing \u201cAmerica the Beautiful,\u201d Carlile said she\u2019ll perform fully live \u2014 with no prerecorded safety net, embracing the same risk she believes audiences take every day simply by showing up.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe people deserve to have you live,\u201d Carlile told The Associated Press on Thursday. \u201cThey need you to be taking the risk they\u2019re taking every day when they walk out into those streets.\u201d<\/p>\n

That decision sets the tone for how Sunday\u2019s pregame performers<\/a> are approaching one of music\u2019s most technically demanding stages. Some play it safe while others are fully present.<\/p>\n

Carlile, who will perform before kickoff along with Charlie Puth<\/a> and Coco Jones,<\/a> described preparation that extends beyond rehearsals and sound checks. Having previously performed in large outdoor venues \u2014 including Elton John\u2019s final tour date at Dodger Stadium<\/a> in 2022 \u2014 she said singing in an open-air stadium introduces noticeable sound delay, where performers can hear their own voices echo back moments later.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been preparing for it more spiritually than technically,\u201d Carlile said. \u201cI want to sing that song as more of a prayer than a boast.\u201d<\/p>\n
